Research goals

  1. 01

Assess viable offshore wind resources and hurricane exposure for island energy systems.

  2. 02

Coordinate wind, storage and flexible compute demand without compromising grid stability.

Technical pathway

  1. 01

Resource assessment — combine wind measurements, reanalysis, bathymetry and shipping or ecological constraints to compare candidate sites.

  2. 02

Engineering and control — compare fixed-bottom and floating concepts; model extreme loads, wake effects and safe shutdown with human-approved controls.

  3. 03

Validation — test forecasting, turbine fault detection and microgrid dispatch in simulation before any permitted pilot.

Expected outputs

Proposed deliverables · not completed results

  1. 01

A resource and siting assessment with uncertainty ranges and environmental screening.

  2. 02

Validated forecasting and dispatch prototypes, maintenance guidance and a techno-economic feasibility report.
